Although still a relatively new concept when compared to most other utility installation methods in Asia, horizontal directional drilling (HDD) is emerging quickly in many countries throughout the continent.
Open excavation is still the norm in Korea, China and Taiwan, where labor rates and political agendas sometimes prevent the consideration of trenchless solutions. In Northern Asia, however, there is more acceptance of trenchless technology; machine dealers and their representatives strongly promote their machines as the solution to disruptions caused by raw excavation of crowded urban areas.

Some countries have a very high acceptance level of horizontal directional drilling in all utility industries. Officials in these countries have even enacted bans against open cutting of streets and highways that have recently been built. CMS is already opeating its machine in Asia and is on the cutting edge of this emerging market for trenchless technology and horizontal directional drilling machines.
