In January 2001, Robbins HDD shipped a large river crossing drill rig to China. The Chinese machine is scheduled to install 1.3 miles (2,000m) of 24 in (0.61m) diameter petroleum pipeline beneath the Yangtze River in Jiangsu province, China. The equipment arrived in China in mid April 2001. Before being sent to the job site the rig was assembled and tested by CMS personnel. CMS has sent several drilling experts to the job site to ensure a smooth crossing.
With 550,000lb (2,447kN) of thrust and pullback and 68,000 ftlb (92kNm) of torque, the rig is configured as a trailer mounted system with the drill located on one trailer and the power unit on another. A third trailer houses the operators control station.
Supplied along with the rig is everything necessary for a large river crossing; the down hole tooling, the guidance system and software, a mud mixing and recycling system, the drill string and a year’s supply of spare parts. Robbins HDD has also trained the personnel both in the U.S.A. and on the job site in China.
